About Labelbox
Labelbox is a San Francisco AI data company founded in 2018 by Manu Sharma, Brian Rieger and Dan Rasmuson. It began with software for organizing and labeling the datasets used to train machine-learning models. The company later expanded into managed data services, model evaluation and expert-led post-training work. Its current company overview describes a platform that turns human expertise into structured signals for AI systems.
Labelbox still exists as the company and enterprise brand, but the AI training platform is Alignerr, Labelbox's expert network.
AI data training work at Labelbox
Labelbox provides tools and managed services for labeling images, video, text and other data. Its newer work also includes preference data, model evaluations, benchmarks, specialist datasets and reinforcement-learning environments. These projects can require general annotators, language experts, software developers or professionals in subjects such as science, law, finance and medicine.
The people completing that contributor work are now organized through Alignerr. Labelbox says the network spans many countries, domains and skill levels. Tasks can include writing prompts and reference answers, comparing model outputs, explaining factual or reasoning errors, developing evaluation standards and quality-checking another expert's work.
What is it like to work at Labelbox?
Labelbox sells the data platform and services to organizations, while Alignerr recruits and manages experts. Labelbox formally introduced the expert route in stages. A November 2024 product announcement for Alignerr Connect described businesses engaging proven experts through Labelbox's infrastructure. Since then, Alignerr has become the public place for contributor applications and project matching.
Contract type, remote eligibility, hours, rates and project duration are determined through Alignerr roles. Joining that network does not guarantee continuous work, because assignments depend on client demand and your qualifications.
Application process at Labelbox
Passing a general assessment makes you eligible for matching; it does not promise an immediate assignment. When a project is offered, check its rate, expected hours, location rules, contract terms, payment arrangements and likely duration.
