Contributor work moved to Welo Data

Welocalize remains Welo Global’s language-services division, but contributor applications for AI data training are now handled through Welo Data and Welo Works.

What to know

About Welocalize

Welocalize was founded in 1997 by Smith Yewell. The business grew from a localization company into a global provider of translation, language technology and multilingual content services. Its company overview lists New York as its headquarters and describes a workforce and partner network operating across many countries.

AI data training work at Welocalize

Welocalize has a long history of recruiting linguists and remote contributors for search evaluation, ad quality, translation, transcription, data collection and language annotation. As AI systems became more capable, that work expanded into prompt creation, model-response evaluation, safety review and the collection of speech, text, image and video data.

Welo Global formally launched Welo Data as its dedicated AI training-data brand in 2024. Current projects may recruit general contributors as well as translators, linguists, search specialists and people with professional subject knowledge. However, those opportunities are now presented through Welo Data and its Welo Works platform rather than through a standalone Welocalize contributor marketplace.

What is it like to work at Welocalize?

If you joined an older Welocalize program, you may remember separate portals or job titles carrying the Welocalize name. Current AI contributor work generally uses an independent-contractor or freelance model under Welo Data. Projects are commonly remote, but country, language and residency rules differ because clients need data from particular markets.

Hours and contract length are project-specific. Some assignments ask for a regular weekly commitment, while others provide flexible batches of tasks. Approval for the contributor community does not guarantee that a suitable project is immediately available. Demand can change quickly, and there may be waiting periods or gaps after one assignment ends.

Recent developments and media coverage

In 2026 the parent company adopted the Welo Global name, while Welocalize continued as its language-services division. Welo Data is the group’s specialist AI-data division. For contributors, that means current AI project invitations and worker experiences belong with Welo Data even when an older message or legal entity still carries the Welocalize name.

Application process at Welocalize

For current AI data projects, use the Welo Data contributor community. You create a Welo Works profile and supply your country, languages, experience and areas of expertise. A project may then require an identity check, résumé review, language exam, guideline quiz or task sample.

Passing an assessment can make you eligible for that project or add you to a qualified talent pool. It does not promise immediate work, fixed weekly hours or a permanent position. When a matching assignment becomes available, you receive the project terms, rate, expected availability and onboarding instructions before production work begins.

Welocalize still advertises corporate and language-services careers under its own name. Those employee roles are separate from the flexible AI training opportunities covered here, so check which Welo Global division is named in any offer you receive.

A project invitation may still carry a Welocalize email address or legal entity even when the work platform uses Welo Data branding. The written offer can clarify which group company handles contracting and payment.
