About Aligned Labs
Aligned Labs is a San Francisco company founded in 2024 by Paul McDonald and Tyler Garvin. McDonald previously worked on generative-AI products at Google and is Aligned's CEO; Garvin is its COO and has a background in computational biology and operations. The company connects experienced professionals and educators with projects that create, improve and evaluate data for advanced AI models.
This is not the similarly named Alignerr platform. Aligned Labs describes itself as an expert-data business especially interested in people with at least 15 years of professional experience, as well as certified teachers and other education professionals.
AI data training work at Aligned Labs
Aligned recruits domain experts to demonstrate how a strong professional would answer a question, assess AI-generated work and create specialized training or evaluation material. Current and recent opportunities have covered law, medicine, economics, finance, investment research, science, software, writing and education. A project may ask you to compare responses, identify factual or reasoning errors, draft examples, design difficult questions or review work from other experts.
The company focuses on deeper subject knowledge rather than high-volume microtasks. That means your professional credentials, teaching ability and written explanations can be as important as speed. Each opportunity sets its own subject, experience and location requirements.
What is it like to work at Aligned Labs?
Remote eligibility varies. Some opportunities are open broadly, while others are restricted to the United States or require a particular license, degree or professional background. Hours and duration are project-specific. You may be asked for a weekly commitment during an active assignment, but there is no reliable platform-wide minimum or maximum.
Acceptance into Aligned’s expert community makes your profile available for matching; it does not reserve paid work. A live project invitation supplies the expected volume, deadline, review process and treatment of rejected work, and gaps are possible while the client demand does not match your field.
Application process at Aligned Labs
Aligned reviews applications against an opportunity that matches the applicant’s expertise and location. Applications typically ask for your contact details, CV or professional profile, education, licenses and evidence of subject experience. You may also need to explain why you are qualified for the specific domain.
Aligned reviews applications for the relevant opportunity. Depending on the project, the next stage can include a screening conversation, identity or credential checks and a written subject assessment. It can be safer not to assume that every vacancy uses all of these stages; follow the instructions attached to the role. A practical evaluation may test whether you can follow a rubric, spot subtle errors and explain your decision clearly.
