About ElevenLabs
ElevenLabs is an AI audio company founded in 2022 by Mati Staniszewski and Piotr Dąbkowski. Its main operating hub is in London, with additional offices including New York and Warsaw. The company develops speech generation, voice cloning, dubbing, transcription, music and sound-effect tools.
There are two distinct ways for independent contributors to work with its technology. ElevenLabs Productions connects freelance language and audio specialists with paid production tasks. The Voice Library separately lets a person license a verified digital clone of their own voice and receive usage-based rewards.
AI data training work at ElevenLabs
ElevenLabs Productions combines AI audio tools with human transcription, translation, dubbing and quality control. Freelance Dubbing Specialists, sometimes described as Producers, can refine translations, edit time-synchronized dialogue, select or assess voices and improve the naturalness and consistency of finished audio. Other projects can cover captions, subtitles, transcripts and audiobooks.
These roles often use production language rather than the title “AI data trainer,” but they place expert human judgment, correction and evaluation inside an AI audio workflow. The precise purpose still depends on the project: one task may create a finished localized production, while another can help evaluate or improve an automated speech, transcription or dubbing system.
The Voice Library is a different contribution model. A Professional Voice Clone is trained from clean recordings of your voice. Once verified and shared, paid ElevenLabs customers can select the clone for generated audio. This route is closer to licensing a reusable voice model than completing assigned freelance tasks.
What is it like to work at ElevenLabs?
Productions work is freelance and task-based. The public platform describes a flexible schedule, the ability to claim suitable jobs and compensation attached to each task rather than one company-wide hourly rate. Its current overview advertises rates from $1.20 per finished minute, but the amount can vary with the language, service, complexity and quality requirements. A per-minute production rate cannot be compared directly with an hourly wage because one finished minute may require several minutes of editing or recording. There are also production projects that pay a fixed rate per task.
Availability depends on current customer projects, your languages, audio skills and the jobs visible to your account. Joining the Producer network does not guarantee a continuous queue. Each task defines the expected output, deadline, revision rules and reward before it is claimed.
Voice Library earnings instead depend on paid customers choosing your voice clone. ElevenLabs’ current guidance gives a typical default near $0.03 per 1,000 generated characters, while the selected removal-notice setting can affect the rate. Professional Voice Cloning requires a paid plan, payout eligibility requires an active Starter subscription or higher, and Stripe availability limits where cash rewards can be received. This means Voice Library revenue is usage-based and may not exceed the subscription cost.
Application process at ElevenLabs
For Productions, the contributor profile focuses on languages, dubbing or localization experience, audio judgment and the services you can provide. A freelance role can add a sample, practical assessment or quality review before the account receives suitable work. Accepted Producers can then claim available tasks in the platform and complete them under the project’s production instructions.
For the Voice Library, you create an ElevenLabs account, use a plan that supports Professional Voice Cloning and upload clean recordings. A Voice Captcha helps verify that the samples belong to you. After the clone is trained, sharing details such as language, accent and intended use are added for a quality and authenticity review. An approved voice can then be connected to Stripe and listed in the library, but approval does not guarantee customer use or a particular level of earnings.
