What to know
About iMerit
iMerit was founded by Radha Ramaswami Basu in 2012. The company provides specialist data used to train, tune and evaluate AI across healthcare, autonomous mobility, robotics, technology and other complex fields, using text, images, video, audio, LiDAR and multimodal data.
There are two relevant ways to work with the company. Its standard careers page lists employee opportunities, including data annotation roles at iMerit locations. The separate Scholars network recruits subject experts for flexible, remote and project-based AI training work.

Annotation teams can label images and video, segment objects, review sensor or LiDAR data, structure text and support quality checks. Scholars projects go further into expert feedback for generative AI. Depending on the assignment, contributors may analyze model reasoning, write or evaluate domain-specific answers, perform red teaming, review creative work or help models understand specialist language and concepts.
The Scholars network recruits across professional, academic and creative fields, including computer science, engineering, healthcare, law, finance, education, natural sciences, humanities, languages, writing, design and audio. Individual projects set their own degree, experience, language and location requirements. Many assignments require careful written explanations rather than only quick labels.
What is it like to work at iMerit?
The experience depends on the route you join. Core annotation positions are employment roles and may include local benefits, leave and structured development. Scholars positions are project-based contractor roles. They are generally remote and flexible, but you work in a managed team with project managers, quality leads and other domain experts rather than anonymously completing an unrestricted task queue.
The Scholars website says projects can last from a few days or weeks to longer contracts. Availability changes with client needs, and some roles are open globally while others name specific countries. Registration or pre-registration therefore does not guarantee immediate work. Rates and conditions are shown for individual roles after signing in, so iMerit does not provide one verified public pay range that applies to every contributor.
Recent developments and media coverage
In June 2026, EXL signed an agreement to acquire iMerit for up to $310 million. The official announcement says completion is expected in the third quarter of 2026 and remains subject to closing conditions. Until that happens and branding changes are confirmed, this profile remains under the iMerit name.
Application process at iMerit
For an annotation or employee role, open the relevant careers listing and submit the requested résumé and personal information. The employer’s recruitment stages vary by position and location.
For Scholars, create a profile or apply to a listed project, then provide your education, language ability and professional or academic expertise. iMerit assesses core skills, language level and domain knowledge. Project-specific training may follow before paid work begins. Some listings offer pre-registration when a team is not yet live, so check whether a role says “Apply now,” “Pre-register” or names current live availability before investing time in the process.
