What to know
About Micro1
Micro1 is a Palo Alto AI data company founded in 2022 by Ali Ansari. It began as an AI-powered recruiting platform before shifting its focus toward the expert human knowledge needed to train and evaluate advanced AI models and agents.
Today, Micro1 describes itself as a data lab for frontier AI models and agents. It recruits and evaluates specialists, assembles project teams and manages the production of human-generated training data. Its services include model evaluations, reinforcement-learning environments, enterprise AI testing and real-world data for robotics systems.
AI data training work at Micro1
Micro1 offers flexible, remote AI training opportunities to professionals around the world. Its projects cover fields including engineering, finance, economics, law, medicine, healthcare, linguistics, writing and cinematography. Opportunities range from generalist assignments to highly specialized work for experienced professionals, industry leaders and Ph.D. holders.
AI data trainers may evaluate model responses, create challenging prompts, write ideal answers, develop scoring rubrics, check factual accuracy or annotate and categorize data. Legal experts, for example, have been asked to design complex cases that expose weaknesses in a model’s reasoning. They may then produce “golden responses” that demonstrate how an experienced lawyer would answer.
Some Micro1 projects move beyond text. Robotics assignments may involve recording everyday household activities, such as cooking, cleaning or handling objects, so machines can learn from human movement and decision-making.
What is it like to work at Micro1?
Most AI training opportunities are advertised as remote contract, freelance or independent-contractor work, although some listings allow either full-time or part-time participation. Micro1 says it hires globally, but legal, regulatory and security restrictions exclude applicants living in several listed countries and regions. Eligibility requirements differ by role.
There is no standard project length or weekly schedule. Recent listings have included contractor roles requiring roughly 15 to 20 hours per week. Other positions are described more broadly as part time or full time. This means the work may fit around another job or your studies, but some projects require a firm commitment up to 40 hours.
Pay also varies by role and expertise. Recent listings have advertised $30 an hour for a generalist training role, $40 to $80 an hour for an AI trainer role and $50 to $90 an hour for a doctor role. These are examples, not a company-wide pay scale. The rate shown in your specific offer is the one that matters.
Most importantly, passing micro1’s certification process does not guarantee immediate paid work. It makes your profile eligible for suitable projects. Matching still depends on client needs, your verified skills and project availability, so there may be a wait or gaps between assignments.
Application process
Micro1 reviews applications against a role that matches the applicant’s skills and experience. After you apply, you may be asked to complete an online interview with Zara, Micro1’s AI recruiter.
The AI interview is recorded and usually includes questions related to the role. You may be asked about your experience, how you would handle certain situations, or to complete a practical task. Depending on the position, this could involve writing, coding, reviewing AI responses, or labeling data. The interview usually takes about 20 to 40 minutes.
If you pass the assessment, Micro1 can certify your skills and consider you for suitable AI training projects. This does not always mean you will receive work immediately. Project availability depends on what clients need at that time. You can also complete assessments for additional skills, which may help you qualify for more opportunities.
