Flexible AI training projects for writers, editors and domain experts

What to know

About Mindrift

Mindrift is an online platform that connects specialists with projects used to improve artificial intelligence. It was launched in 2024 by Toloka, and it is operated by Amsterdam-based Toloka AI BV. Olga Megorskaya, the founder and CEO of Toloka, also leads Mindrift. The company says its community includes more than 20,000 AI trainers across over 90 professional domains.

Mindrift’s clients need high-quality examples, corrections and expert judgments that help AI systems produce more useful and reliable answers. Mindrift recruits people with strong writing skills as well as specialists whose knowledge can be used to check subject-specific work.

AI data training work at Mindrift

Your tasks depend on your background and the project. Common examples include writing prompts, producing an ideal answer, comparing two AI-generated answers, checking facts, correcting reasoning and explaining how a response could be improved. Some projects involve text, while others can include images, audio or other media.

Mindrift recruits writers, editors and people with professional or academic expertise. The subject areas shown on its site include software development, mathematics, medicine, law, finance, business and many other fields. A project may require a degree, professional experience, strong language skills or knowledge of a particular market. The contributor FAQ explains that opportunities are offered according to your expertise and current client demand, so the work visible to one contributor may be very different from the work available to another.

What is it like to work at Mindrift?

You participate as an independent contributor rather than as an employee. This means you choose whether to accept an available project and normally decide when to complete tasks within its deadlines. You are also responsible for your own equipment, taxes and other obligations. Projects are remote, but individual opportunities can be limited to particular countries, languages or time zones.

Passing Mindrift’s general screening does not guarantee a continuous stream of work. You may be admitted to its talent pool and hear from the company only when a suitable project opens. Even after one project ends, there can be a gap before the next matching assignment. Working hours and project duration therefore vary. Some work may be available in small, flexible blocks, while other projects ask for a regular weekly commitment.

Mindrift states that the rate or task price is shown before you accept work. Payment is made for tasks that pass review, and its contributor guidance says payments are processed twice a month. Rates, expected output and review rules are defined for each Mindrift project. Some client work is confidential, so you may also need to accept a non-disclosure agreement and follow restrictions on the tools or information you can use.

New all-access task route

Mindrift introduced a second entry route in July 2026. All-access tasks are open without a CV, interview or subject assessment and can include basic labeling, transcription and lightweight AI-output comparison. Contributors still complete short task onboarding, and payment is per completed and accepted task. Specialist work in fields such as medicine, law and STEM continues to use the screened application process described below and normally pays more.

Application process at Mindrift

You begin by applying for a suitable role and submitting your CV or résumé. Mindrift then checks whether your background matches the advertised expertise. Depending on the role, you may complete a language, writing or subject-matter assessment and, in some cases, an interview. Identity verification can also be required before paid work starts.

If you pass, you may be invited directly to a project or added to the talent pool. Project onboarding can include instructions, examples and another qualification task. Production task access begins after those onboarding steps are complete. Mindrift’s How it works page sets out these stages and makes the distinction between being approved for the platform and being assigned to a project. It is worth reading every project brief carefully before accepting, especially the stated rate, deadlines and quality rules.
