Responsibilities
Transcribe audio recordings into accurate, well-formatted written text following clear guidelines.
Handle a variety of audio types — different accents, speaking speeds, and recording qualities.
Apply consistent formatting, punctuation, and speaker-labeling conventions.
Flag unclear or inaudible segments and note speaker changes where relevant.
Meet quality and turnaround targets for each assigned batch of audio.
Work independently and asynchronously on your own schedule.
Required skills
A strong, focused listener who catches nuance and detail in spoken language.
Comfortable typing accurately at a reasonable pace.
Able to follow detailed style and formatting guidelines consistently.
Self-motivated and reliable when working independently.
Preferred skills
Previous experience with transcription tools or audio software.
Familiarity with different English accents or multilingual audio.
Background in journalism, linguistics, media production, or accessibility work.
Experience and education
Patient and methodical when working through challenging audio (accents, background noise, overlapping speakers).
