About the role
In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. This engagement centers on operating and setting up both hobbyist (e.g., Makera Carvera) and industrial (e.g., Haas VF-2) CNC machines, interpreting engineering documentation, and troubleshooting across a range of materials and geometries. Contributors will provide input on machining processes, best practices, and issue resolution, ensuring high standards of quality and consistency throughout the project.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machines across multiple platforms, including desktop and industrial models.
- Load and verify CNC programs, install tooling, configure work-holding, and set work offsets for various projects.
- Run first-piece cycles, inspect machined parts against drawings, and adjust setups to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and diagnose issues such as tool wear, chatter, or dimensional drift.
- Utilize precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, indicators, CMM) to validate parts and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and manufacturing documentation to guide part production.
- Collaborate and provide feedback to CAM programmers and other stakeholders on setup optimization and manufacturability.
Preferred skills
- 5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience, including both setup and production.
- Expertise operating Haas control systems (VF-2 or similar platforms) required.
- Familiarity with hobbyist/desktop CNC platforms (such as Makera Carvera) strongly preferred.
- Proven proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and use of advanced measurement tools.
- Experience working with a range of materials, including both metals and plastics.
- Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills for clear documentation and feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot machining processes, optimize setups, and maintain a safe, organized workspace.
