About the role

In this role, you’ll apply your coding expertise to create the training material that helps next-generation AI systems learn, reason, and perform. Your work will shape how models understand real-world medical coding. No prior experience in AI is required, your domain knowledge is what matters.

Responsibilities

  1. Author realistic medical coding scenarios, clinical documentation excerpts, and coding questions across inpatient, outpatient, and professional fee settings, with accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS code assignment.
  2. Write detailed answer keys and rationales that explain code selection, sequencing, modifiers, and Present on Admission (POA) indicators, citing the relevant official guidelines and coding conventions.
  3. Build evaluation rubrics and test cases of varying difficulty, including complex and ambiguous documentation, to assess how well AI models apply coding rules.
  4. Review and revise existing coding content for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with current ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic, and CPT guidance.
  5. Collaborate with project stakeholders using both written and verbal communication to clarify requirements, resolve documentation ambiguities, and ensure data integrity.
  6. Deliver high-quality feedback on coding guidelines and complex cases to support project workflow improvements and enhance AI model understanding.

Experience and education (Preferred)

  1. Active AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential.
  2. Thorough expertise in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT, with hands-on coding experience in a hospital, physician practice, or coding audit setting.
  3. Experience writing or reviewing coding content, such as training materials, audit findings, coder education, or exam preparation.
  4. Ability to explain complex coding decisions clearly and concisely in writing.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and clarity.
  6. Access to current ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT code sets and Official Coding Guidelines.
