About the role

Responsibilities
- Author realistic reading and writing instruction scenarios across levels.
- Write model feedback on student writing with the reasoning behind it.
- Grade model output for accuracy of literary analysis and quality of feedback.
- Flag feedback that sounds supportive but doesn't improve the writing.
Required skills
- Depth in writing instruction, literature, and composition feedback.
Preferred skills
- Experience teaching advanced courses such as AP, IB, or equivalents.
- Journalism, yearbook, or creative writing advising.
- Experience teaching English learners.
Experience and education
- Teaching license or certification with an English or language arts endorsement.
- 2+ years of teaching English in a classroom setting.
Language requirements
- Clear written English for modeling excellent feedback.
Assessment requirements
- Apply at /apply/english-teacher-expert. About five minutes. Resume plus a few structured questions.
- Resume review. Every application gets read against a published rubric and gets a decision.
- Written assessment. You may be asked to take a written assessment for further placement.
- Onboarding. Sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, and get platform access.
- Project match. You're matched to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.
Schedule details
Time Commitment: 10 hours/week.
Start Date: ASAP.
End Date: Ongoing.
Fully remote, fully async. No fixed hours.
Minimum 10 hours per week, no maximum. Scale up or down week to week.
Independent contractor. Ongoing project work rather than single task batches.
Able to commit at least 10 hours per week.

Compensation details
- $35 - $65/hr.
- $35 to $65/hr, paid weekly via Stripe. Your rate is set from your experience, not negotiated down after you start.
