Responsibilities

Author realistic ESL teaching scenarios across proficiency levels, from beginner literacy to academic English.
Write reference answers with the pedagogical reasoning behind each instructional decision.
Grade model output for accuracy, level appropriateness, and pedagogical soundness.
Flag explanations that read correct but would confuse a language learner.

Required skills

Depth in lesson planning, error correction, and proficiency assessment.

Preferred skills

Experience teaching multiple proficiency levels or age groups.
Exam preparation experience such as IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge.
Curriculum or materials development experience.

Experience and education

TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA certified teachers, or state licensed ESL teachers.
Working teachers with at least 2 years of classroom or online ESL experience.
Teachers with depth in lesson planning, error correction, and proficiency assessment.
Clear writers who can document the reasoning behind an instructional decision.
TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA certification, or a state ESL teaching license.
2+ years of classroom or online ESL teaching.

Language requirements

Clear written English for documenting pedagogical reasoning.

Assessment requirements

Apply at /apply/esl-teacher-expert. About five minutes. Resume plus a few structured questions.

Resume review. Every application gets read against a published rubric and gets a decision.

Written assessment. You may be asked to take a written assessment for further placement.

Onboarding. Sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, and get platform access.

Project match. You're matched to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.

Schedule details

Fully remote, fully async. No fixed hours.

Minimum 10 hours per week, no maximum. Scale up or down week to week.

Able to commit at least 10 hours per week.

Time Commitment: 10 hours/week.

Start Date: ASAP.

End Date: Ongoing.

Compensation details

$35 - $70/hr.
$35 to $70/hr, paid weekly via Stripe. Your rate is set from your experience, not negotiated down after you start.
