Global AI data, evaluation and specialist annotation roles

What to know

About Innodata

Innodata is a global data-engineering company co-founded by Jack Abuhoff in 1988. Its headquarters are in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, and it operates delivery teams across North America, Europe and Asia. The business began long before the current generative-AI boom, working with complex publishing and business data, and now provides data collection, annotation, model evaluation and specialist expertise to companies building AI systems.

Unlike an open microtask site, Innodata mainly recruits through specific vacancies and managed projects. Its company information describes more than 36 years of data work and a network of delivery locations around the world.

AI data training work at Innodata

Roles can include data annotation, search or response evaluation, prompt and answer writing, fact checking, language work, content analysis and quality review. Innodata also hires subject-matter specialists in areas such as science, technology, medicine, finance and law, as well as linguists, taxonomists, data engineers, project managers and team leads.

The exact task depends on the client project. You might label images or documents, compare model outputs, write an ideal answer, identify unsafe content or review another annotator's work. Some vacancies are suitable for early-career applicants, while specialist projects can require a degree, professional license, native-level language ability or several years of experience.

What is it like to work at Innodata?

Innodata uses several working arrangements. A listing may be a regular employee position, a temporary contract or a project-based role. Many teams offer remote or flexible work, but geographical eligibility is set vacancy by vacancy. A role labeled remote may still be limited to one country, state or time zone because of client, tax or data-security requirements.

Working hours and project length are not standard across the company. Some roles follow a full-time schedule, while annotation projects may use shifts, weekly availability targets or a fixed contract period. Compensation and benefits are also role- and region-specific. Innodata says it offers competitive compensation, but there is no verified company-wide annotator rate, so the figure in the individual offer is the one that matters.

You normally apply for a particular opening rather than receiving automatic access to a permanent task pool. Being accepted for one project therefore does not guarantee another assignment after it ends. Hiring can expand when a client program starts and slow when its required volume is complete. If continuity matters to you, ask whether the contract has a planned end date and whether reassignment is possible.

Application process at Innodata

Innodata reviews applications against a specific opening that matches the applicant’s location and expertise. The application normally asks for contact details, a CV and answers about your experience or eligibility. Some jobs may add a language, writing, technical or annotation assessment, followed by interviews with recruitment or the project team. Innodata says legitimate recruitment stages are described through its verified channels.

The time commitment varies: a standard application can be short, while specialist assessments and interviews take longer. Passing a test does not by itself create an employment or contractor agreement; you still need a written offer and onboarding instructions for the named project.
