About Stellar AI
Stellar AI is an online platform for flexible data annotation and AI training work. It recruits generalists as well as software engineers, machine-learning professionals and other subject experts, then matches accepted contributors to projects based on their assessments and experience.
The company’s contributor website describes open-ended contract work where you help create, test and evaluate tasks for AI systems. Rather than offering one standard annotation queue, Stellar matches people to projects based on a skill test, education and professional experience.

Generalist projects can involve researching topics, creating difficult prompts, writing ideal answers and building evaluation rubrics that define a good AI response. Technical projects can ask you to inspect codebases, turn software-development problems into tasks for coding agents, write tests, document errors or evaluate model behavior. Some roles require a bachelor’s degree, professional experience or advanced academic knowledge, while generalist work has broader requirements.
Stellar publishes role-specific rates on its current openings page: the generalist route starts at $25 per hour, while software and machine-learning roles show higher ranges. These are starting points or role ranges, not a promise that every applicant receives the maximum.
What is it like to work at Stellar AI?
Most opportunities are open-ended independent-contractor arrangements with no standard daily schedule or minimum. A notable exception is the current machine-learning engineer route, which describes an optional guaranteed-hours contract for qualified contributors: 20 hours per week for six months at a stated $80–$120 hourly range after qualification. That option is role-specific; the normal project pool remains flexible and demand-based. Approved work is paid weekly through PayPal.
Joining the applicant pool does not guarantee an immediate project. Stellar reviews skill-match results on a rolling basis and contacts people when client demand matches their experience. There is no standard waiting time, so you could remain in the pool between assignments. Geographic eligibility also varies: some technical roles accept candidates across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, while other projects may be narrower.
Application process at Stellar AI
You select an open role or register for the general applicant pool, then provide your contact details, country, education and work experience. Technical applications may also ask for a LinkedIn profile, GitHub profile, portfolio and weekly availability. You then complete a skill-match or qualification test designed around the relevant project.
If your results match a current need, Stellar asks you to review and sign contractor agreements, complete identity verification and add PayPal details. After onboarding, you receive project guidelines and self-service training materials before working. The company’s privacy policy confirms that applications may collect professional information and that identity verification is handled through Veriff. Passing a test places you in consideration for matching work; it does not create a guaranteed start date.
Stellar’s privacy notice says identity verification may be handled through Veriff. A legitimate verification request appears in the official onboarding flow and explains the identity data required for the contributor account.
